Exclusive | Wild NJ single’s first date suggestion sparks outrage: ‘I dodged a bullet’

It is a real journey!

A Jersey girl has sparked a major dating debate.

Zach, a 34-year-old software engineer from FiDi, made plans for a first date after meeting a woman from Jersey City on Hinge, but as soon as they scheduled the date, she asked, “How am I getting there? ?”

“My initial reaction was ‘Oh, this woman absolutely wants me to call her an Uber,’ which is a bit of a red flag for me, but I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt,” Zach told The Post. .

The exchange was posted on online dating coach Erika Ettin’s Instagram account @alittlenudge and quickly generated over 370,000 views and more than 1,000 comments.

The back and forth continued with Zach giving his match a pair of public transportation options. “I think it’s closer to Brookfield Place by shuttle or the WTC [World Trade Center] on the Road.”

She was not impressed. “Oh. I thought you were going to send me an Uber.”

A Connecticut native who moved to the Big Apple three years ago, Zach explained why he thought the request was off limits.

“I haven’t met you yet… I didn’t know this person’s last name, I had never seen him,” he said.

“If I called her an Uber, she would have to send me her address, which is really weird to send to a random man.”

He had originally offered to travel to the Garden State, writing “I’m not familiar with the finer points of first dates. Do you have any favorites? Otherwise, I’ll suggest some things in Manhattan.”

When the woman, who was in her mid-30s, said she was fairly young in Jersey and was “open to the suggestions of Manhattan,” he gave her two options. She opted for drinks at Treadwell Park at FiDi.

After the woman made it clear she wanted him to pay for her ride to Gotham, Zach tried to lighten the mood, writing “I wish you had worded it like ‘Call me an Uber’ so I can I would have said, ‘You’re an Uber,’” but she never responded.

He still showed up for the date “just in case.” But when he texted her to say he had a seat, she replied: “I’m not coming.”

He wrote back, saying “it was a little weird” that she asked him for an Uber, especially after he offered to come to her – and she replied: “I’m driving almost an hour to meet you for a date first, not even for dinner. The least you can do is cover my transportation. It’s not a strange concept for a gentleman.”

Instagrammers were shocked at the woman’s nerve to assume he was going to foot her travel bill, calling it “ridiculous”, “wild” and “super weird”.

“This is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. I have never heard of such a thing,” wrote one.

“I wouldn’t have believed this if it hadn’t been posted,” added another.

Many disputed the woman’s logic and assured Zach that he was “dodging a bullet.”

“Spending hundreds of dollars on a girl who can’t spend 15 minutes on the train, can’t communicate that she would like to be taken anywhere and calls him not a gentleman because he didn’t do something that the vast majority of people do. who lives in nyc would look wild? It’s a dog not for me,” said one.

Singles from all over the world said they would have traveled to meet Zach – with comments such as “would happily cross state lines to meet this guy”, “I would actually cover my trip from London to NYC for this date.” and “what I wouldn’t give for a guy to show this level of effort and thought for a date in my hometown.”

Although most were on his side, some were Team Jersey girl.

“He initially said he would offer options in her area,” said one. “Then, when he wasn’t familiar with her neighborhood, he said, ‘That changes things.’

Although he was burned by a New Jerseyan, Zach said he was still open to meeting women from across the river.

“Why would I judge the entirety of people in a country by one bad experience I had with someone,” he said.

He also can’t help but think about what might have been if he had just traveled to the Garden State in the first place.

“I wonder what would have happened if I had just gone and picked a place in Jersey,” he said. “Who knows, right?”
